So I thought it would be fun to team up with goodnessknows snack squares, to share some pics from our last photoshoot and also a must-have items list that saves us during a crazy day shooting and styling! goodnessknows snack squares are the delicious squares that keep our energy levels up throughout the day. Planning for a shoot starts several weeks before the actual shoot day. For this pre-production phase, I make mood boards, pull inspiration and shop for the supplies and rentals. I also write a million and a half emails and correspond with vendors and locations. It takes countless hours to pull together one styled shoot from concept to day-of-styling and photographing. But it’s all worth it when I can visually see it all come together!! So much fun!!

On the actual shoot days, I have Catie (who also helps with social at Sugar and Charm) and Stephanee, my intern, help with everything!! I honestly could NOT pull off a photoshoot alone, so their help is imperative for making it a successful day!

For the most part, I can usually convince Zan to take time from his own busy schedule to photograph our styled shoots. He’s really good and after helping for so many years, knows the Sugar and Charm look and aesthetic. And I can boss him around more than other photographers to get the exact shot I want, haha!! By seeing these pictures you now know (not that you didn’t before!), it’s never a perfect looking setting and far from the beauty we try to create in our final shots! There’s usually always a mess behind the camera to capture those stunning photos! Even if I’m entertaining for friends and family, there will be a mess somewhere in the house… like the kitchen!!

Below is a list of my must-have items that help make photoshoots a success.

My MUST-HAVE items for a photoshoot

Canon 5D Mark III with various lenses (Zan’s fave lenses are the 85mm 1.2, 50mm 1.2 and 100mm L 2.8 Macro)

This tri-pod with a ball head

At least one strobe light with a medium soft box. 2-3 lights are even better if you don’t have a lot of natural light.

A super tall ladder to reach high places for hanging decor!!

Tons of water bottles!

Snack Bars and fresh fruit! You can find a location close to you that sells goodnessknows snack squares here!!

Paper towels and large garbage bags for clean up

Heavy duty tape and twine

Scissors and a small tool kit

UE BOOM (gotta have tunes!!)

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of goodnessknows. The opinions and text are all mine.
